Causes of Acne
Acne is quite a common skin condition among people. Acne is caused by the overproduction of oils in the sebaceous glands, which blocks the follicles of the skin.
This oil is known as sebum, and when an overabundance of sebum mixes with dead skin cells, it forms a plug. These plugged follicles will create the whiteheads and bumps we know as acne.
Types of Acne Treatment in Malaysia
The most common areas that are affected by acne are the face, chest and back. Acne blemishes can develop in five forms.
It appear as small black or yellowish bumps on the skin. Blackheads aren't actually filled with dirt. It's down to the pigments of the hair follicle that gives it this colour.
Similar to blackheads, but feels firmer and cannot be emptied by squeezing.
Form as small red bumps and can feel sore and tender to the touch.
Similar to papules, but these have a white tip at the centre that is a result of the build-up of pus.
These are the most severe type of acne blemish. These larger lumps look like boils and are filled with pus. These also carry a greater risk for permanent scarring.
What Are Acne Scars?
One of the biggest complications of acne are the scars it can leave behind.
Any of the 5 types of acne blemishes have the potential to cause scarring, but scarring becomes more prevalent with cysts and nodules. These cause damage when they burst. Also, picking at acne blemishes and scars can make them worse.
Acne scars form when the deep layer of skin is damaged, causing them to become visible reminders of injury and tissue repair. Acne scars are considered an injury that is caused by the body's inflammatory response to sebum, bacteria and dead cells.
There are 3 types of acne scars that can develop; Ice Pick Scars, which are small deep holes that resemble a puncture wound. Rolling Scars, which is a band of scar tissue that forms under the skin. And Boxcar Scars, or craters, that are round or oval depressions in the skin.
All of these acne scars can be treated however and you don't have to live with them.
Treatment Option #1 - Microdermabrasion
This microdermabrasion technique uses aluminium oxide crystals passing through a vacuum tube to remove surface skin. Only the extreme surface cells of the skin are removed, so no additional wound is created.
Treatment Option #2 - Laser
Dermlaze skin laser centre uses an erbium glass fractional laser system for acne scar removal. The fractional lasers (fraxel laser) emits hundreds of tiny individual laser beams into the skin in very short bursts.
It's different wavelength and intensity may be used to reform scar tissue and reduce the redness of the skin around healed acne lesions.
Due to its revolutionary high water absorption and up to 1.5mm penetration depth, the treatment is able to achieve a remarkable result for a variety of skin problems, including common scars and stretch marks.
